10th Grade English and Composition
- High School (9th-12th)
Available at the standard and honors levels, this 10th grade course is designed to foster development of students’ literary curiosity, critical reading skills, writing abilities, and discussion strategies. Students scrutinize such cultural movements as Puritanism, Transcendentalism, Dark Romanticism, Realism, Naturalism, Modernism, and Post Modernism, all the while asking how literature reflects the larger context of a developing nation, its shifting worldviews, and the “American voice.” In the process, students will develop, express, and defend their interpretations of literature and then turn that interpretive lens towards the world around them. Marked emphasis is placed on writing skills, critical thinking, grammar, vocabulary, usage, and style.
