Wesleyan’s AP Program has a History of Success
Wesleyan’s AP program is thriving with past successes and new growth. At Wesleyan, all AP students are required to sit for the exam unlike other schools in the area where sitting for the exam is optional. Over the past three years, Wesleyan has taught 415 AP students who have taken a total of 610 AP exams. In 2011, an unprecedented 90% of all AP students received a score of 3 or better. This is up from 86% in 2010 and 75% in 2009. Wesleyan students historically score well above the average for the state of Georgia(55% in 2011) and around the globe (60% in 2011). Not only do Wesleyan students perform better than their Georgia peers across the board, but many are earning 4’s and 5’s on a wide range of AP exams. For example, in 2011 and 2010, 100% of all AP students sitting for the European History exam earned a score of 4 or 5. This is well above the 36% of all students in Georgia who earned a 4 or 5. More than 70% of all Wesleyan AP students have earned 4’s or 5’s on the Biology, Calculus AB, Chemistry, Computer Science A, English Literature and Composition, and Studio Art 2-D Design exams. This far exceeds the state and global averages which are in the 30% range. Overall, Wesleyan has many hard-working AP students being taught by engaging and challenging teachers.
New for the 2011-12 school year is the addition of AP Physics B. This course is challenging 30 juniors and seniors in its inaugural year. Based on Wesleyan’s exemplary track record, we look for good scores to come out of this course as well. Wesleyan’s AP teachers and students are a big part of Wesleyan’s reputation for academic excellence. |
