CONGRATULATIONS TO THESE FINE STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
Two Wesleyan Seniors Earn National Merit Semifinalist Status
The College Counseling Office is most pleased to announce that Lindsay Ives and Will Taylor have been selected as Semifinalists in the 54th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. According to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, each of these students "shows exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies."
Approximately 1.5 million students in over 21,000 U.S. high schools entered this year's 2009 Merit Program as juniors taking the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Less than one percent of the nation's high school seniors were designated as Semifinalists on a state representational basis.
Chosen as Semifinalists, these students have demonstrated a strong academic record, have been endorsed and recommended by Chris Cleveland, Principal of the High School, and Linda Connolly, Director of College Counseling, and have submitted SAT scores that confirmed their previous PSAT performance. In addition, the college counseling office will submit a detailed scholarsip application that includes comprehensive academic information, self-descriptive essays and information about participation and leadership in school and community activities. All will now advance in the competition to determine National Merit Finalists.
Congratulations to Lindsay, Will and their families!

This year more than 200,00 competed for this honor; nearly 5,000 of them have been recognized as National Hispanic Scholars or Honorable Mention Finalists. Maddie has been recognized as a scholar.
Congratulations to Maddie and her family!
