Serve-His League was born out of a desire to help students fulfill the Christian call to discipleship and stewardship. Following the example of Christ, as Christians, we are called to serve Him by loving and serving one another. Here at Wesleyan, we give our students many opportunities to serve others, not only in our own Wesleyan and Norcross communities, but also the greater Atlanta area and the world as well.
High School
In the High School, our biggest service opportunity of the year is our High School Serve-His Day. It is a whole day devoted to the service of others. All the high school students and faculty participate in a variety of service projects throughout the metro Atlanta area. This school year Serve-His Day was on Wednesday, October 29th. We visted a number of agencies throughout the metro Atlanta area: Assistance League of Atlanta, Atlanta Community Tool Bank, Atlanta Union Mission Homeless Shelter, Atlanta Union Mission Women & Children Services, The Best Thrift Store, Chattahoochee Nature Center, Children's Restoration Network, Community Action Center, Dunbar Elementary School, Eagle Ranch, East Lake Arbor Health & Rehab, Foundation for Hospital Art, Good Samaritan Health Care, My House, Norcross Cooperative Ministry, North Fulton Child Development Association, North Fulton Community Charities, Project Open Hand, Rainbow Nation Animal Rescue, Rosemont Nursing Home, Salvation Army Homeless Shelter, Sheltering Arms Daycare Duluth, Sheltering Arms Daycare Techwood, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and Woodson Elementary School.
In addition to Serve-His Day, we provide our high school students with other opportunities to serve throughout the school year. We offer ALL SCHOOL opportunities whereby all three schools (HS, MS, and LS) participate by donating food, clothing, or toys for various charitable organizations. We also offer HIGH SCHOOL opportunities to serve by helping to host a Christmas Party for underprivileged families in downtown Atlanta or writing letters to our US troops serving oversees, just to name a few. Finally, we also offer our students other opportunities to serve through a student’s extracurricular activities such as Bible Study Groups, Sport Teams, National Honor Societies, Clubs, Classes, or Grade Levels.
Middle School
In the Middle School, students participate in a variety of service related activities that give them the opportunity to engage in learning about Christian stewardship. The Middle School Serve-His League is involved in monthly visits to either Sheltering Arms Daycare or Tapestry House. At Sheltering Arms, the students have the opportunity to play with the children and provide a break for the employees. At Tapestry House, an assisted living facility for senior citizens, students visit with the residents and participate in scheduled activities that include bingo, arts and crafts, and singing. There is always a waiting list for these exciting service opportunities. At various times during the year, the Middle School Service League also participates in collections for a variety of charities. Previous opportunities have included coloring books, crayons, and snacks for the Ronald McDonald House, toiletry articles for the Assistance League of Atlanta, school supplies for the Community Action Center, food drives for Norcross Cooperative Ministry, Community Action Center, and North Fulton Community Charities, and "shoe boxes" for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child. This year the MS Serve-His League will participate in the Juvenile Diabetes Walk on October 18th and the 10th Annual William's Walk on November 1st benefiting the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children, Inc.
Lower School
Serve-His League in the Lower School is involved in many outreach projects. Some of the projects are: Books for children attending Atlanta Youth Academy, Walk to Cure Juvenile Diabetes, 10th Annual William's Walk, food for Norcross Cooperative Ministry, Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child, Christmas stockings filled with toys and candy for Norcross Cooperative Ministry, hygiene bags for Good Samaritan Health Center, and visits to assisted living communities. These projects touch the lives of people in our local community and the lives of people in other countries. |
