4 WRESTLERS WIN STATE TITLES!
The Mat Wolves won their 3rd straight state runner-up title on Saturday, and 4 wrestlers won state titles, the most in school history. Colin Genthert (160) claimed his back-to-back title, the first in school history, along with Michael Douglas (171), Cole Watson (189), and Andrew Uria (215) who each won their first titles. Also placing for the Wolves were Brooks Spraetz (112) and Tyler Hediger (135) in second, Josh Tolman (140) in fifth and Zach Rindik (119) in sixth place.

LADY WOLVES WIN 5TH REGION CHAMPIONSHIP!
The Lady Wolves defeated Paideia on Saturday to win their 5th region championship. They begin their quest for a 6th state championship on Friday when they host Athens Christian. The boys team defeated Eagle’s Landing Christian to earn a 3rd seed in the state tournament and will travel to Athens Academy on Saturday. Times for both games will be announced as soon as possible.

WRESTLING TEAM IS 2008-2009 AREA 2 CHAMPIONS!
Wesleyan defeated #2 ranked Commerce, 37-21 in the final dual of the Area 2-A tournament on January 10th. Wesleyan also defeated #3 ranked Social Circle, 4-24, Athens Christian ,64-12, and Savannah Country Day, 78-0. Undefeated for the tournament were Wesleyan's Brooks Spraetz, Alex Sierota, Josh Tolman, Colin Genthert, Michael Douglas, and Andrew Uria.

WOLVES ARE HEADED TO THE GEORGIA DOME!
The Wesleyan Wolves defeated the Lincoln County Red Devils, 20-12, Friday night to advance to the State Championship game for the first time in school history. QB Conor Welton connected with 3 different receivers, Bobby Worthington, Anderson Porter, and Daniel Cardwell, to lead the Wolves to victory over Lincoln, a team with 14 state championships in its school history. It was an electrifying night at packed Henderson Stadium with plenty of media coverage, see links below:

DIZON, HALL, MESA STATE HEADLINE 2007 NFF ALL-COLORADO TEAM
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- University of Colorado’s Jordon Dizon was voted as the 2007 National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame - Colorado Chapter Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. United States Air Force Academy’s Chad Hall was the unanimous choice for the organizations Offensive Player of the Year. Jared K eating of Mesa State and head coach Joe Ramunno were selected as this years Special Teams Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.
The 2007 NFF All-Colorado Team was voted on by the organization’s board members and the sports information directors from each of the 10 Colorado football-playing institutions.
A consensus first team All-American, a unanimous first team All-Big 12 performer and the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, Dizon was the nation’s leading solo tackler (12) and second overall (160). He had a school record 19 third down stops and had 25 for zero or minus yardage.
Hall was the only player in the nation to lead his team in rushing (1,415) and receiving (488) this season in 2007. He led the nation in all-purpose yards over the last seven weeks with an average of 257.5 yards per game and was ranked second nationally in rushing yards over the last seven weeks with an average of 179.5 yards per game. Hall set a school-record with 275 rushing yards and 333 all-purpose yards vs. Army. He has recorded four of the top six single-game all-purpose yardage marks in school history. Hall rushed for 1,415 yards this season (second most in school history) and he set a new single-season Academy record for all-purpose yards with 2,504. Hall led the Mountain West Conference in rushing with a 117.9 average and in all-purpose yards with an average of 208.7.

2007-08 AVCA HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR ALL-AMERICA TEAM ANNOUNCED FOR GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
LEXINGTON, Ky. (February 12, 2008) - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is proud to announce the 2nd Annual AVCA High School Senior All-America Teams for girls’ volleyball.
For the second consecutive year, Texas was represented by five players, the most in the country. Four athletes from Ohio were selected, while North Carolina produced three AVCA High School All-Americans.

Only players in their high school senior season whose high school head coaches are AVCA members were eligible for nomination.

Swimmers defeat AAAAA Northview!

Swimming and diving roundup: Wesleyan girls beat defending AAAAA champs in the pool
NORCROSS - The Wesleyan girls swimming and diving team handed Northview its first ever loss in a dual or tri-meet this past weekend, defeating the Titans by a 161-148 margin.
The Class AA Wolves won two of the three relays against the defending Class AAAAA girls state champions. Wesleyan fell just short against Northview in the boys competition, losing 158-156.
Freshman Erika Ramsey won two events for the Wesleyan girls, the 50 freestyle in 26.35 seconds and the 500 free in 5:40.94. Teammates Jordan Jackson (100 backstroke, 1:06.14) and Hannah Machemehl (100 breaststroke, 1:12.97) added swimming wins while Abby Nelson won in diving with a score of 193.85.
Wesleyan got two boys wins each from Grant Smith (200 individual medley, 2:04.78 and 500 free, 5:00.64) and Rich McMurry (50 free, 22.68 and 100 free, 50.50)

Wesleyan Basketball Teams Sweep Deep South Classic!
The Lady Wolves defeated #1 Marietta in a dramatic overtime classic on Saturday, Dec. 29th, to capture their 2nd Deep South Classic title. The Wolves later trounced Collins Hill to win their first Deep South championship in their first bid for the title. Anne Marie Armstong and Howard Thompkins were named the tournament's respective MVPs. Erin Hall and Tanner Smith were named to their All-Tournament teams.

Wesleyan's Smith Named State's Top Volleyball Player
Wesleyan senior Betsy Smith has been named the 2007-08 Gatorade Georgia Volleyball Player of the Year, making her a finalist for Gatorade's national player of the year later this month.
Smith led the Wolves to four state championships in four seasons, capping her senior season with 14 kills and nine digs in a state championship win over Lovett. She had 441 kills and 226 digs during the season.
The Florida signee also maintains an A average in the classroom, volunteers with multiple church and community projects and mentors 20 freshmen in Wesleyan's peer leadership program.
"She has a very high volleyball IQ," Wesleyan coach Ted Russell said. "She understands the many facets of the game. And she's a great leader. Kids follow her. She was selected as a captain for the USA Volleyball A2 Junior National Team. For them to choose her, that speaks volumes about her leadership."

- Hall is the fourth running back since the inception of the MWC to be named offensive player of the year.
- Only player in the nation to lead his team in rushing (1,415), receiving (488) and all-purpose yardage (2,504).
- Leads the MWC and ranks 16th nationally in rushing average (117.92 ypg).
- Leads the MWC and ranks third nationally in all-purpose yardage (208.67 ypg).
- Set new MWC single-season records for all-purpose yardage in overall (2,504 yards) and conference-only games (1,617 yards).The previous overall mark was held by BYU's Luke Staley with 2,018 yards in 2001, while the conference-only record was originally set by Wyoming's Jovon Bouknight with 1,475 yards in 2005.
- Has the second-most rushing yards in a single-season in school history behind Beau Morgan's 1,494 yards (1996), and needs just 80 in the bowl game to set a new Academy standard.
- Named the MWC Offensive Player of the Week three times in 2007.
