Strength & Conditioning

Wesleyan's Strength and Conditioning program is designed to further the school's mission to develop mental, physical, and spiritual growth. We strive to cultivate student athletes that are strong in character and courageous in spirit.

Students have access to the weight room, individualized instruction, and tailored programs both before and after school. Team training is coordinated through the head coach of each sport.

Students also have the option to sign-up for one of the available strength and conditioning courses and train during the school day. The class setting provides the necessary structure and consistency to get the most from a training program.

Course Descriptions

Female Strength and Conditioning

Female Strength & Conditioning is a one semester elective course for freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. It is a prerequisite for Sport Performance Training. This course is designed specifically for our female students in an effort to provide both programming and a training environment to best support their fitness goals. This course will offer students the opportunity to learn performance training methodologies and terminology. Students will also learn basic principles of strength training, physical fitness, speed and agility training, and sports nutrition. Students should expect to develop greater neuromuscular control and coordination (injury prevention); muscular endurance and general physical conditioning during the semester. Leadership and character development are also entrenched in the dynamics of this class.

Male Strength and Conditioning

Male Strength and Conditioning is a one semester elective course for freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. It is a prerequisite for Sport Performance Training. This course will offer the student the opportunity to learn basic performance training methodologies and terminology. Students will evaluate proper functional movement patterns, identify movement dysfunctions and asymmetries, and learn corrective exercises to improve movement quality and safety. Students should expect to develop an increase in neuromuscular control, general physical conditioning, strength, and power during the semester. Students must demonstrate movement mastery in order to advance levels of training. Special emphasis will be placed on goal setting, performance based nutrition, hydration, & recovery techniques. Leadership and character development are entrenched in dynamics of this class.

Sports Performance Training

Sport Performance Training is a one semester elective course for sophomores, juniors, and seniors that have completed Strength and Conditioning. This course will operate in the same fashion as its prerequisite, with additional emphasis on exercise science and technology. Students will be challenged with advanced movements, accommodating resistance equipment, and power output technology. Students will also take on more leadership in the area of program development as it pertains to specific agreed upon personal goals.
